beginning DIY; this is a dangerous productThe instructions were not overwhelming at my skill level. Mounting cabinets to side units is challenging and the result is hardly safe. During assembly and afterword, there is a very real risk of dropping a cabinet on the floor or your foot. It was not at all reassuring that brackets supporting the cabinets kept working loose and falling out while I installed shelves. In the end, I added many more permanent fasteners to hold everything together. As an aside, the IKEA web portal sucks. Ordering online for delivery is far from simple or reliable. For that matter, the delivery service is way less than reliable; they called to say delivery would be the next day, then showed up, literally, 15 days later. I am a first time IKEA customer who will not likely make any future purchases.

Directions are horribleI bought it online and the pieces came on different days which was first an issue, Ikea really should update their tracking options. When I finally received the sides the directions don't help at all. They are confusing and make no sense. I will be improvising to get t together. I called Ikea for assistance and they were no help either, they need to offer assembly services in all areas even after the product is purchased. I am very frustrated with this product and experience.

Wonderful Shelving Unit!!!!!I read reviews about how difficult this was to assemble so I was prepared to spend a lot of time getting Ivar together. I purchased the style with two cabinets and 8 shelves. Within an hour the cabinets were together and the shelves were being stocked with things that had been laying all around my laundry room. The directions were elementary. Look at the pictures and do what they showed. The shelves had the little metal bars nested in the back on the plastic so they went up quickly. I want an Ivar for every room! They smell lovely, look beautiful and are a breeze to put together. Did I mention they are sturdy and make the pressed wood shelving units look like garbage? Love my Ivar!!!!

Attaching cabinets to shelves? You're on your own. This was an advanced IKEA project. Building the cabinets was tricky but manageable. However, getting them attached to the IVAR side braces was when I started improvising using my very limited background in carpentry. The instructions on how to attach the cabinets inside the shelving system were largely inscrutable and not specific enough for the cabinet/shelving configuration presented. If you find yourself coming up with your own decisions on how to make it work, don't be surprised. I used their hardware, adding my own wood screws. The finished product looks nice and for the price, you're getting a decent deal.

Difficult to assemble, generic instructions etcI still haven't completed assembling this shelving unit. I know the parts needed to mount the top shelves are missing at least and the whole upside down thing to screw the cabinets in makes it definitely not a one person assembly show. Wish The first review had been up before I bought this unit. Words on the instructions would be useful. I'm going to have to call a handyman to help modify and install it. Bummer.

TerribleIf I could give this negative stars I would. It took me the entire day to put this together. And I had to have a 2nd person in order to complete it. It was necessary to turn the entire thing upside down in order to screw the cabinets into the side pieces. This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had putting furniture together and I've had plenty of experience over the years. Typically Ikea furniture is a pain but not like this. Also, hardware is missing so the shelves are not stable and the entire thing is wobbly. So I have the pleasure of waiting for Ikea to get them to me or going to home depot to hopefully find something that will be compatible. The instructions are generic for any of the IVAR products and not specific to this setup so it was incredibly difficult to figure out specifically how to do this combination. I am tempted to never shop at Ikea again.
