Good buy!Purchased as a basement sofa. Great couch for the money. I thought after reading reviews it would be uncomfortable, but I disagree, I think it's fairly comfy and has gotten even more so with time.

Ikea Regret from
Wow, the most uncomfortable sofa imaginableThis has got to be the most uncomfortable sofa I have ever owned. Trying out the floor model in the store it seemed pretty good, if a little bit firm. The floor model was very dirty, so I did not spend more than 30 seconds trying it out. I liked the deeper seat and thought it was the most modern looking of Ikea's sofas, so I ordered one online in the blue color.
Delivery was great, right on schedule. I put the sofa together in about an hour. No issues there. It feels very sturdy.
But, after sitting on it for just 15 minutes I now seriously regret buying this. All the cushions are way too firm. This is not the type of "comfy" sofa you can sink into for a movie night. These cushions are so firm it almost feels like the sofa is trying to push me off. My lower back is already starting to hurt, and I know I will probably never want to sit on this sofa going forward. Seriously, I am sitting on the sofa as I am writing this, and it is so uncomfortable, I want to get up and sit somewhere else.
The second complaint is the fabric cover. Do you like sitting on rough sand paper? Then maybe you will like this fabric. Seriously, this fabric is so coarse and abrasive -- it feels terrible against the skin. I had to put a blanket over the entire sofa so my skin won't get rubbed raw.
If this was a brand new sofa to the Ikea lineup I would be a bit more understanding, but this sofa has been around for a long time. They must know by now that the Kivik is incredibly uncomfortable, and just don't care to make it better.
So, to sum up:
-Easy to put together
-Looks modern enough
-Cushions are way too firm. Back problems will be inevitable.
-Fabric was created by a sadist.

Not comfortableIt took us over a month to chose between 3 Ikea sofas. Hours of sitting and deliberating. Unfortunately, once we put it together, the cushions are extremely hard and uncomfortable. It was nothing like the cushions in the show room, which were firm but giving. The cushion covers don't stay in place and have to be reset often with minimal use (there's two of us and we are rarely home). I have a lot of Ikea furniture that's been with me over 10yrs and still going strong. I'd hoped this sofa would last the same. We are disappointed to say the least.

Missing PartsI bought my 2nd Kivik sofa. The first one lasted 5 years and the frame started falling apart. I loved the cover on my last one so I thought I would try a another Kivik and then I would have two covers to switch between, but the arms are missing from the box. It can't be assembled and the other couch has already left the building - what to do? I will be extremely disappointed if I'm asked to bring it back, but I don't know yet because I've been on hold now for 37 MINUTES! Ridiculous customer service - I will NOT buy furniture from Ikea again after this experience!

Were good several years ago... Not anymoreI'm not sure if it's the cover or what, but I had the white version of this couch several years ago, and loved it. When I moved I bought a new one in "borred gray green", and it is the worst. The covers are way too small (I followed the cleaning instructions), so the cushions are hard as rocks once they're crammed in. Then the seams don't stay in place and are a pain to adjust, so not only is it uncomfortable, but it looks sloppy. Wasted my money on this one, should have just bought a more expensive one I guess.

Great option for families with young kids! We've had this couch for 6 months now. It was not my dream couch when we bought it but we are renting a house for a 3 yr medical residency and will be moving after that so didn't want my dream couch (giant velvet sectional) at this stage - it wasn't too hard to put together - the couch is comfy but def firm. I let my 3 yr old and 1 yr old jump on it to try to soften the seat cushions. Had to write a review after my 3 yr old puked ALL over the arm and down the side of the couch (light gray) - we removed the cover of that single arm - scrubbed and washed and it was good as new in a couple of hrs. SO nice to have this option - honestly it would have destroyed any couch without a slip cover. It is the PERFECT couch for this time of life - and I feel I could sell it for a couple hundred dollars when we are ready to move on to our dream couch. Pros: affordable, cleanable, stylish-ish Negatives: it never looks completely smooth and it's very firm in the seat cushions - back cushions are softer and comfy.

Great Sofa!I'm giving the sofa a 4 star review because the couch cushion covers do not stay in place well. I am constantly having to readjust them just to maintain a nice appearance. Other than that, the couch is very comfy. I love the height of the armrests.

I love my Kivik!I have owned my Kivik for YEARS, and get nothing but compliments about it's comfort and looks. I appreciate the machine wash covers, and how - with the back cushions removed - it makes a twin size bed for a shorter guest!
